Thisissand is an app for making and sharing pictures out of sand.

Watch and listen to the sand piling into beautiful layers of sand on the bottom of your screen and get relaxed during the slow and therapeutic process. Once finished, share your creation and become a part of the community!

Thisissand was created in 2008 as a website. It was a school project of a few art students, and to a surprise for the creators it attracted lots of visitors for years to come. In 2012 Thisissand was developed into an app and is still run by an original founder.

Thisissand offers different kinds of tools for choosing the sand color. Originally and still at the moment on Thisissand website, only the essential Color Palette tool is available. For the app, we have developed a few special kinds of tools which we offer in the Toolkit in-app purchase. Just like on the website, the special tools are not at all necessary to enjoy the app, but theyre pretty cool and were happy and thankful for your support if youre willing to try them out!

COLOR PALETTE: Use Color Palette to choose specific colors from a vast swatch of colors. You may choose a solid color, or multiple colors to variate between. Use the intensity slider to adjust how fast the colors change. You may also use the randomize button to get surprising color combos.

COLOR SHIFTER: Color Shifter continuously changes the sand color subtly or dramatically depending on the intensity slider adjustment. Color Shifter often produces rainbow like hues. To set the initial Color Shifter color, choose a color with Color Palette and then select the Color Shifter tool.

COLOR PICKER: With Color Picker, you may pick the sand color from around you using your device camera. It takes a little practice to point your camera and draw at the same time, but in return you get truly unique colors. Try adjusting the color change intensity low in the beginning to keep things under control!

PHOTO SAND: Want to try making a sand version of one of your photos? Photo Sand picks the sand color directly from the photo youve chosen from your camera roll. Try it out and learn the tricks to make abstract and/or photorealistic representations!

MY COLORS: Save your favorite colors in My Colors and access them quickly by long pressing the color button on the sand canvas. Try saving colors from around with Color Picker!

This is honestly sooooo satisfying. I love trying to make layers of pale colours. My big problem is sometimes the sand keeps pouring even after I let go. Please fix this bc I want to make thin layers but this glitch makes that hard to accomplish.

This is AWESOME!!!!!! You can make COOL stuff with this awesome app!

I hate that you have to pay for everything aint nobody got time for that

My brother came across this site years and years ago! He got me hooked on it, we were on the site all the time.. Time passed by, we grew up and I hadnt even thought about it for 5+ years until the other night! I sat on my laptop for an hour just creating cool pieces of art. And the next day I downloaded this App! I have bought the "expansions" but I intend to! Idk what it is but I could sit and make sand art all day. So therapeutic to me! And as a stay at home mom of two toddlers, I rarely catch a break to sit down and do nothing. But Ive found my "new" way to wind down at night! Only gave 4 stars due to the sharing issue. Hopefully it is fixed soon!

But every time im like just doing little dots of color it just does a bunch of sand in that area and it does not stop unless you press some where else. This glitch has ruined one of my arts

Some bad moments

This is a great app that I highly enjoy. My one major issue is that each time I load the game I cant see any of the galleries and I cant save my own works to the gallery, so whenever I make something I have to discard it.

The app wont go past the loading screen for me, fix this problem.

I love this app so much and also the website. I would give the app a 5 star rating and use it all the time if it werent for the fact that every time I close the app and open it again it will just show a loading screen and it will never finish loading. So every time I want to use the app again I have to delete and redownload it, very very annoying. :-(

I bought this app and I thought it was really cool. The photo sand got my attention. I decided to buy the photo sand effect. And it doesnt work. Every time I load a photo, the app crashes! Ugh I want my money back

This app is awesome and a great time waster but I dont like how you have to pay for the different things to use

I bought the tool kit so I could do the picture thingy and it keeps on showing me the wheel and doesnt do anything
